PLATES247 respects your privacy. This policy explains what personal information we collect when you use our website, order number plates or contact us, why we need it, and the rights you have under UK data protection law (the UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018).

The information we collect

  • Order details: your name, email address, phone number, delivery address, the registration you order and the plates you choose.
  • Identity and entitlement documents: for road legal plates, a copy of your photo ID (or a recent bill or statement) and proof that you're entitled to the registration, such as your V5C logbook. These can include your date of birth, address and vehicle details.
  • Payment information: payments are handled by our payment providers. We don't see or store your full card details.
  • Messages: anything you send us through the contact form, email, phone, WhatsApp or social media.
  • Newsletter: your email address, if you sign up for new styles and offers.

Why we use your information

  • Making, delivering and supporting your order, including warranty claims: to perform our contract with you.
  • Checking your identity and entitlement before making road legal plates, and keeping a record of the sale: legal obligation. The Vehicles (Crime) Act 2001 requires number plate suppliers to do this.
  • Answering your questions and messages: our legitimate interest in helping customers.
  • Keeping business and tax records: legal obligation.
  • Sending our newsletter: your consent, which you can withdraw at any time.

We never sell your personal information, and we don't use it for any other purpose without telling you first.

Who we share it with

We only share your information when we need to, with:

  • delivery companies such as Royal Mail, so they can deliver your plates
  • payment providers, to take your payment securely
  • the DVLA, the police or other authorities when the law requires it
  • service providers who help us run the business, such as our online checkout (Shopify), email and website hosting, who may only use it on our instructions

If you message us on WhatsApp, your messages are also handled by WhatsApp (Meta) under its own privacy policy.

How long we keep it

  • Sales records and copies of your documents: 3 years from the sale, as required for registered number plate suppliers. After that they're securely deleted.
  • Order and accounting records: up to 6 years, for tax purposes.
  • Messages: for as long as needed to help you, and no longer than 2 years.
  • Newsletter: until you unsubscribe.

Your rights

Under UK data protection law you have the right to ask for a copy of the personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, ask us to delete it (unless we have to keep it by law), object to or restrict how we use it, ask us to transfer it, and withdraw your consent at any time. To use any of these rights, contact us using the details above. We'll reply within one month.
